The 2019 W. Y. Smith Award winner is Jason B. Greer. Named in honor of General William Y. Smith, who led IDA from late 1985 through late 1990, the award recognizes extraordinary individual or group contributions to IDA from the wide range of non-research exempt staff members who contribute to our success.

Jason won the award for creating novel, effective solutions some of IDA’s most cumbersome, paper-driven processes. As a senior programmer/analyst, Jason automated several internal systems in order to help corporate leaders conduct IDA business more efficiently with less potential for human error.

Jason is most deserving of this award. He is a highly respected professional who partners closely with users to fully understand their business challenges to develop creative, user-friendly solutions that meet their requirements. Jason not only quickly solves complex problems with elegant, workable solutions, he also freely mentors and shares best techniques and methods with other software developers.
