2022 Julie B. Kerr Award for Excellence in Research
F. Miller Maley received the 2022 Julie B. Kerr Award for Excellence in Research. The award is named in honor of a late Center for Communications Research, La Jolla researcher. The award is meant for an IDA employee who has demonstrated research excellence and exceptional analytic achievement in the IDA research community. This is the first year the award is being presented.
Miller joined IDA’s Center for Communications Research, Princeton (CCR-P) in 1990 and has contributed to its mission through a large array of projects since then. His work combines both theoretical and practical advances and is of the highest quality. In 2019, he was recognized for his work by the Tri-Center Research Award. Miller is an exemplar for collaboration across multiple sites and routinely organizes workshops at both CCR-P and our sponsor. He took a leading role 15 years ago in building the collaboration software that we still use today.
Miller holds a doctoral degree in computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Amherst College.
CCR-P’s mission is to perform mathematical, statistical and computational research in support of national security. Miller has been at the forefront of this effort for more than 30 years and continues to make fundamental contributions.
