IDA Researcher Participated on Naval History Panel
JAWD’s Jessica Huckabey presented a paper on “Admiral Gorshkov’s Grand Design” for a panel on the Cold War and naval strategy at the 2019 McMullen Naval History Symposium at the U.S. Naval Academy September 19. The biennial event – the largest regular meeting of naval historians – “highlights the latest research on naval and maritime history from academics and practitioners all over the globe.”
Senior IDA Fellow in NAPA’s 2019 Class of Fellows
Congratulations to Peter Levine, who was named by the National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA) as a member of its 2019 Class of Fellows. The class will be inducted at NAPA’s 2019 fall meeting being held November 7–8, 2019 in Arlington, Virginia.
STPI Researcher Served as Panelist at Arctic Futures 2050

The discussion focused on challenges faced in informing policy and policy makers about research.

IDA Researcher Serves on Panel at Marine Corps Expo

IDA Researchers in War on the Rocks
War on Rocks - In Search of a 21st-Century Joint Warfighting ConceptIn Search of a 21st-Century Joint Warfighting Concept” by IDA researchers Tom Greenwood and Pat Savage of JAWD was published September 12, 2019 in War on the Rocks. The article highlights the need for a joint warfighting concept to achieve unity of effort against near-peer competitors (such as China or Russia).

 




IDA Researcher Participated in NATO Webinar
photo, Dorina Bekoe IDA’s Dorina Bekoe participated in a NATO Strategic Direction -- South Hub hosted a webinar, “Africa: Obstacles to Opportunities,” facilitated by Three Stones International, to discuss Africa’s security, employment, and equality challenges. She was one of 19 Africanists representing a broad range of sectors -- economics, gender, academia, peace building, human rights, health care, and government.
IDA Team Receives GEAR Center Challenge Honorable Mention Award
The IDA team of Deena Disraelly, Laura Itle, John Adams, Steve Olechnowicz, Laura Odell, Mike Dominguez, David Nicholls, Georgia Butcher, Maia Salholz-Hillel, Patricia Sadiq, Linda Garlet, Matt Coursey, and Mike Lippitz proposed an innovative, secure, modern, mission-capable information technology solution to be hosted by the U.S. Postal Service to improve the customer experience of navigating the “background check” process and utilizing post offices as local, readily accessible fingerprinting and credentialing service hubs. The work merited a Government Effectiveness Advanced Research (GEAR) Center Challenge Honorable Mention Award.

SFRD’s Deena Disraelly, an active Society of Women Engineers (SWE) member, is featured on a SWE video: My Journey. My Community. My SWE. Dr. Disraelly discusses her story – how and why she became an engineer – and how important she views the role of women in the organization to be mentors.
IDA Researcher Named Fulbright Scholar
SFRD’s Kayla Matteucci received a Fulbright award that will allow her to do research for 10 months in England, starting in September. Her specific Fulbright is the United Kingdom Open Award, an open study and research grant awarded on the basis of her proposed project.
Peter Levine’s Latest Article
The latest article by SFRD’s Peter Levine appeared in the August 6 War on the Rocks: Can the Pentagon Save Its Way to Better Management? Prepared as IDA publication NSP-10777 Are Savings Goals an Effective Tool for Managing the Pentagon? Mr. Levine argues that savings targets and budget reductions can be a useful driver for management reform, but only if they are based on a specific reform agenda and a thorough knowledge of what it can be expected to accomplish, rather than being established on the basis of wishful thinking.
STPI Director Keynote Speaker at NDIA, Purdue Conference

STPI’s Asha Balakrishnan was a panelist at a briefing on the Global Challenge of Space Traffic Management on July 17. The presentation was part of the 70th International Astronautical Congress Series of Capitol Hill Events.
IDA Researcher Participated in FTC Panel

He was on a panel discussing the safety considerations of repairing these products.

STPI Director To Moderate Panel at John Glenn Memorial Symposium
