Position:  Multimedia Technician
Description

The Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) is a not-for-profit corporation that operates three Federally Funded Research and Development Centers serving the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Department of Homeland Security, Unified Commands and Defense Agencies in addressing important national security issues, particularly those requiring scientific and technical expertise.

Under minimal supervision this position provides Audio-Visual and Video-Conferencing support services for the Center for Computing Sciences (CCS).  Primary responsibilities relate to the operation, support, and management of complex audio-visual/video-conferencing equipment in the CCS classified and unclassified facility.  This position ensures and completes the recording of conferences, the labeling of media, and proper classification for retrieval purposes. In addition to audio-visual/video-conferencing, this position may assist as a technician elsewhere in the CCS facility.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Becomes familiar with and understands in depth the role of all audio-visual/video-conferencing and control system components in use at CCS.  Reads and understands wiring diagrams, technical requirements and specifications. Conducts tests, performs scheduled maintenance activities, tracks problems and recommends resolutions.  Performs connectivity tests with remote sites quarterly and before and after equipment upgrades
  • Develops, updates and maintains standard operating procedures (SOP) for the use and maintenance of CCS’s audio-visual/video-conferencing equipment and conference room facilities. Works with other key personnel to ensure standards operating procedures are established and met.
  • Works with the front office staff to ensure that proper approval is given for external group use of facility and conference facilities. Acts as the CCS point of contact for meetings, conferences and other events that require audio-visual/video-conferencing support, and other special needs. Schedules and coordinates the use of CCS conference rooms by staff and external groups.
  • Operates the control system components in conference rooms; ensures that what is being sent to the remote sites is being recorded if required. Adheres to the quality control requirements needed for recordings.
  • Maintains video file storage system to include a descriptions/classification labels for documents catalog.  Works with Classified Library to ensure proper file classification, storage and availability. Works with Security to coordinate and arrange any COMSEC key material and encryption equipment needed.
  • Stays current on technology, interfaces with vendors, recommends and coordinates upgrades as necessary.
  • Coordinates training for other CCS staff to ensure redundant coverage of audio-visual conferencing facilities.
  • Maintains on-line inventory list of all video equipment and updates Property management of equipment changes, updates and relocations.  Keeps a stock of spare parts for video equipment (projectors bulbs, microphones, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; AA degree in electrical engineering or computer science, or formal technical training/education in Video Communications which includes theoretical and practical experience in maintenance and repair of audio-visual conferencing equipment is highly desired.
  • Two to four years experience installing and managing audio-visual/video-conferencing equipment
  • Must be knowledgeable with the use of Ethernet, TCP/IP, network cabling, web services and conferencing.  Working knowledge of MS Windows OS, Linux OS and Network File Systems.
  • Crestron Programming experience a plus
  • Familiarity with NEC/EPSON/CODEC/EXTRON equipment a plus
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all levels of employees and possess good interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret security Clearances.
  • Must be highly-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
